Solutions to the problems of using glass sealant in winter

Due to the low temperature in winter, what problems will you encounter when using glass sealant in a low temperature environment? After all, glass sealant is a room temperature curing adhesive that is greatly affected by the environment. Let’s take a look at the use of glass glue in winter low temperature environments. 3 common questions!

1. When glass sealant is used in low temperature        environment, the first problem is slow curing

The temperature and humidity of the environment have a certain influence on its curing speed. For one-component silicone sealants, the higher the temperature and humidity, the faster the curing speed. In the autumn and winter seasons, the temperature drops sharply, which reduces the curing reaction rate of the silicone sealant, resulting in slower surface drying time and deep curing. Generally, when the temperature is lower than 15°C, the curing speed becomes slower. For the metal panel curtain wall, due to the slow curing of the sealant in autumn and winter, when the temperature difference between day and night is large, the gaps between the plates will be greatly stretched and compressed, and the sealant at the joints will easily bulge.

2. Glass sealant is used in low temperature environment, and the bonding effect between glass glue and substrate will be affected

As the temperature and humidity decrease, the adhesion between the silicone sealant and the substrate will also be affected. Generally suitable for the environment where silicone sealant is used: two-component should be used in a clean environment at 10°C~40°C and relative humidity 40%~60%; single-component should be used at 4°C~50°C and relative humidity 40% ~60% use in clean ambient conditions. When the temperature is low, the curing rate and reactivity of the sealant decrease, and the wettability of the sealant and the surface of the substrate decreases, resulting in a longer time for the sealant to form a good bond with the substrate.

3. Glass sealant is used in low temperature environment, and the glass glue is thickened

As the temperature decreases, the silicone sealant will gradually thicken and the extrudability will become poor. For two-component sealants, the thickening of component A will cause the pressure of the glue machine to increase, and the glue output will decrease, resulting in unsatisfactory glue. For one-component sealant, the colloid is thickened, and the extrusion pressure is relatively high during the process of manually using a glue gun to reduce the efficiency of manual operation

How to solve

If you want to construct in a low-temperature environment, first conduct a small-area glue test to confirm that the glass glue can be cured, the adhesion is good, and there is no appearance problem before construction. If conditions permit, first increase the temperature of the construction environment before construction
