Knowledge of structural silicone sealant

Silicone weather-resistant structural adhesive is a neutral curing structural adhesive designed for structural bonding and assembly in building curtain walls. It can be easily extruded and used under a wide range of temperature conditions. It relies on moisture in the air to cure into excellent, durable, high modulus, and high elastic silicone rubber. It is mainly used for structural or non-structural bonding and assembly between metal and glass in glass curtain walls, so it is commonly known as “glass adhesive”.

It can directly bond glass and metal construction surfaces to form a single assembly component to meet the design requirements of fully hidden or semi-hidden frame curtain walls. It is also suitable for structural bonding and sealing of hollow glass. After complete sealing, a durable, elastic and waterproof interface that can bear structural strength can be formed.

Structural adhesive refers to adhesives with high strength (compression strength>65Mpa, steel-steel positive tensile bonding strength>30Mpa, shear strength>18Mpa), which can withstand large loads, and are resistant to aging, fatigue, and corrosion. They have stable performance within the predetermined lifespan and are suitable for bonding strong structural parts. ‍‍‍‍‍‍Non-structural adhesives have low strength and poor durability. They are only used for ordinary or temporary bonding and sealing, and cannot be used for bonding structural parts.

The service life of construction projects is generally more than 50 years. The components are subjected to large and complex stresses, which are directly related to the safety of life and property of personnel. Structural adhesives should be used for bonding. Structural adhesives are widely used in engineering, mainly for reinforcement, bonding, and repair of components; such as bonding steel, bonding carbon fiber, planting steel bars, crack reinforcement, sealing, hole repair, spike pasting, surface protection, concrete bonding, etc.

Silicone glass adhesive will not flow due to its own weight, so it can be used for joints over the top or side walls without sinking, collapsing or flowing away. It is primarily used for bonding dry clean metals, glass, most non-greasy woods, silicone resins, vulcanized silicone rubber, ceramics, natural and synthetic fibers, and many painted plastic surfaces.
