In house construction, we will use some sealants, such as neutral silicone sealants, which are more commonly used. They have strong bearing capacity, good adhesion and waterproof properties, and are suitable for bonding glass, tiles, plastics and other products. Before using sealants, you must first understand the construction method of sealants to avoid incorrect construction and the sealant cannot be sealed well. So how to use neutral silicone sealants?
1. The use of sealant is relatively simple. First, use rags, shovels and other tools to clean the cement mortar, dust, etc. in the gap. This step is very important. If the gap is not cleaned properly for construction, the sealant is prone to loose adhesion and falling off. Next, install the sealant on the glue gun and cut the glue gun nozzle according to the size of the caulking gap.
2. Then we stick plastic tape on both sides of the gap and use a glue gun to squeeze the sealant into the gap to seal it. The purpose of sticking plastic tape on both sides of the gap is to prevent the sealant from overflowing during construction and getting on tiles and other places, making it difficult to remove the sealant. We use tools such as scrapers to compact and smooth the filled sealant, and tear off the plastic tape after the construction is completed.
3. It is easy to use a glue gun to spray silicone sealant out of the glue bottle. If there is no silicone gun, you can consider cutting the bottle with a blade and then smearing it with a spatula or wood chip.
4. The curing process of silicone sealant develops from the surface to the inside. The surface drying time and curing time of silicone with different characteristics are not the same. Therefore, if you want to repair the surface, you must do it before the silicone sealant dries. Before the silicone sealant is cured, it can be wiped off with a cloth strip or paper towel. After curing, it must be scraped off with a scraper or scrubbed with solvents such as xylene and acetone.
5. Silicone sealant will release irritating gases during the curing process, which are irritating to the eyes and respiratory tract. Therefore, this product should be used in a well-ventilated environment to avoid entering the eyes or contacting the skin for a long time (wash your hands after use, before eating or smoking). Keep out of reach of children; the construction site should be well ventilated; if it accidentally splashes into the eyes, rinse with clean water and seek medical attention immediately. There is no danger after the silicone sealant is fully cured.
